Company Background
Smart Design is an independent design/consultation
operation started in 2001 to explore the opportunity in the area of growing radio integrated circuits applications. The operation
is intended to provide the following service to the radio development / manufacture industry 1/ Provide consultation
in the R.F integrated circuits design. 2/
Take on R.F./radio IC/module design/evaluation project.
3/ Provide radio integrated circuit solution for the wireless radio
systems. Starting
from 2003, Smart Design had been focused on the feasibility of implementing a single chip radio tuner integrated circuit for
the newly proposed European DRM digital broadcast system as well as operating as a traditional AM/FM radio
receiver, also with the possibility of extending the design as an universal tuner integrated circuit for
the worldwide terrestrial digital audio broadcast system. Experience/Expertise
Chief Designer:
Kin-wah Kwan Kin-wah Kwan
completed the Ph.D. in Southampton University in 1982. His main research interest was in the area of bipolar integrated circuit
design. After a brief period working in the semiconductor manufacturing industry in Hong Kong (82-85, process manager, Elcap
Electronics) and design support in university environment (85-88, senior research fellow, Microelectronics Fabrication Center,
Southampton University) , he joined Orbital Mobile Communication, Basingstoke (88-96) to work in
the RF integrated circuit design of the 1st generation
of GSM handset. He was exposed to the fully integrated
RF transceiver integrated circuit design of DECT European wireless phone in
Pacific Communication System Incooperation, Swindon (96-98). He joined Panasonic UK, Thatcham to carry out system performance
study of GSM phone in 1998-2000. Starting from 2001, Kin-wah Kwan works as an independent designer/consultant for radio integrated
circuits.
